A Few S1 Snapshots

During the unpacking I took some snapshots just to show what are expected.

The unopened box

Inside the box

Out of the box

A rubber protective thingy stuck to the frame latch, so I had to cut it out with a box cutter.

Unfolded (The unfolding was easy other than the frame latch thingy)

Front and rear view

The fork

The handlebar and brake lever. The color is off due to the flash. Both should be black. The lever is plastic.

Top tube, showing the frame latch

Seat stay, showing the hole possibly for anchoring a rear brake?

BOARDWALK - the paint

Finally, the slim-down version, 25 lb, without the fender, kickstand, and rear rack.

Comments:
Hi,

What would be the right carryon bag for this bicycle ? Iam seeing 2 bags in amazon. 1 is 16 inches (Double Play) and ther other one is 20 inches. Wondering which is the right one to order ?

thanks!

Hi Skyfish,

Could you please leave you suggestion (on Double play carryon bag) as a comment so that others can see it as well. thanks!

Hi, there, to be honest with you I don't have any experience with carry bags. Since the Boardwalk S1 is a 20" bike, I guess the bag needs to be 20" as well?

Is 29 lbs. a lot for a bike that size?

Hi Skyfish,

I'm grayvw on the Dahon and bikeforums.net forums. Is there any way to add a rear hand brake to this bicycle? I was thinking of buying one in order to install an internal hub gear wheel in the rear. Thanks.

Unfortunately there are no rim-brake bosses on the seat stay. However, you might be able to use a disc brake adapter in the back, which makes the bike look interesting.

As far as rear brakes: There are indeed no vbrake studs in rear.
Based on looking at one in a shop, there appears to be a hole in the seatstay bridge which might well accomodate a sidepull or centerpull rim brake.

Thanks for point that out. I added a picture to show the hole in seatstay bridge. Haven't tried to put a sidepull brake on, though.

Hi,
Could you please comment on the performance? I am pretty stupid about bikes, so I am not sweating changing the brakes or anything. I am just interested in a bike for tooling around. Could you please comment on the speed and maneuverability? Do you think you could take this bike on a well defined trail? Cheers!

Wow! Thanks for this and your Bike Forums discussion, Skyfish. I'm sold. Time to take the plunge.
